What if the United States decided to confer statehood on the land of Oz? (remember the USA was building an empire in the first decade of the twentieth century.) Since Oz can only be reached from the air, perhaps the Wright brothers' newfangled flying machines would come in handy. But what if Oz resisted? Would the US try to reinstall the Wizard as a puppet dictator? Who could lead the peacable land of Oz against a modern, industrial war machine? What side would a 13-year-old Dorothy find herself on? Winged monkeys anyone?
