How To Be Creative

Here's a good article about creativity which aligns pretty closely with my own feelings about making art. It's good stuff.

Half of that is very good advice. The other half is harmless. Not bad.

I relate pretty strongly to the idea that the cost of not trying is greater than the cost of failure.

I may never be successful enough to support myself entirely with my own comics, or get to work on my dream movie project or what have you, but I don't intend to live with the regret of not trying.

I also agree that you can't produce something creative if all you're trying to do is cater to a market or make money. Anything good has it's own intrinsic value which people either respond to or they don't.

I think my biggest handicap right now is that I don't have the confidence to walk into Pixar or wherever and demand a job. At some things, I know I'm good, but I still have weak areas that I need to identify and improve. The key is to do that without simply stealing someone else's bag of tricks.

Slowly but surely...
